Blue Skies Won't Wait for You - Flash Fiction Poem

Somewhere In Nova Scotia

Blue Skies Won’t Wait for You
Oh my darling yes it’s true
No matter how much you try
No matter how much you do
Blue Skies Won’t Wait for You

You get up each morning
You work the day away
The chickens to be fed
The cows milked
Stalls mucked out
Repairs to be made
Farmhouse cleaned
Family to feed
The baby put to bed

Blue Skies Won’t Wait for You
Remember this is what I said
Take some time for yourself my darling
Or life will pass you by in a flash
Blue Skies Won’t Wait For You

This poem is for a Flash Fiction challenge over at Carrot Ranch  Your poem or story must be 99 words, no more, no less. Join us each week and get your creative juices flowing. Try it, you may enjoy it and become addicted to writing Flash Fiction as much as I have.

I Wrote a Poem Just For You

I’d love to be able to write you a song
To let you know how much we belong
Side by side every day
Side by side all the way

If only I could find words to write
How I feel day and night
But it is hard to write with paws
Webbed they are but there is a flaw
No pen will fit between my claws

Just take me for a walk today
Feed me treats and I will stay
Right beside you not pulling away
Just tell me nicely to sit and stay

I promise not to be a rat
I’ll never again chase the cat
If you will feed me a bone or two
I will fetch for you a brew

When you come home at night
I’ll be waiting with delight
Wagging my tail to and fro
Just let me out to play in the snow

I know that it’s not polite to drool
Can’t help myself I am a dog you fool
I can read your mind with ease
I know what you want and how to please
But at times dogs just have to disobey
You took me to the vet and now I am spayed

You always fill my water dish
Sometimes I wish you’d throw me a fish
I am a Newfoundland dog you see
At one time fish were free for me

The liver you make my breakfast with
Is really quite delicious
However if you could just double it up
You would make me a happy pup

So sorry that I shed like a bear
You would too if you had this much hair
I do not like to have my nails clipped
I would rather eat those potato chips

I have a wish for my birthday this year
I hope you don’t find it is too dear
But I would really like a steak
And please oh please bake me a cake

Linking up to PAWSIT Hop Saturday  A new blog hop that is dog licious!

Some Days Are Harder Than Others

A little blue
Slapped in the face,
Embarrassed to think
I was on a cloud
I was self-proud
For awhile

In a flash
Ever so quickly
I crashed and
Came tumbling down
Back to earth
Ouch! That hurt

Stand up again
Pick up the
Pieces what’re left
If any of
My own self-respect

This dream of mine
Will come true
I won’t give up
I refuse to
I’ll go on
I always do
Has this ever
Happened to you?

Sometimes it takes a friend or a new found acquaintance to point out flaws that we ourselves cannot see. This happened to me today, and I am grateful to this person in many ways. So even though this piece sounds terribly depressing, it isn't so. For me it is just a learning process.

If I Could Go Back In Time

Prince Edward Island, Canada

If I could go back in time
And change the things I’ve done
I’m not so sure I’d be any happier
Than what I have become

My life has been meaningful to me
I’ve had the pleasure of many things
Met great people along the way
Still meeting new ones everyday

I’ve never wanted material things
That’s just the way I am
Enjoy the simple beauty
Of lakes, mountains, seas, and lands

If I could have one wish or two
The first one would be
To live the rest of my life
In peace and harmony

The second one is probably
The same many of us have
To live without fear
Of a nuclear war

I’ve had my children, watched them grow
Nurtured them along the way
I've let them know how much they’re loved
I pray they’ll be okay

Old Girl Rapping

Off to the store I go, go, go
Dollar days
Less to pay
Makes more sense
To shop this way

Two for a buck Just my luck
Some shelves are empty this just sucks
That’s okay is what I say
I’ll just come back another day

Turkey’s turkey’s look at that
So long after Christmas and that’s a fact
But they're still here oh dear oh dear
Eat one more and I’ll gobble all year

Pasta noodles all different kinds
Elbows and spaghetti will do just fine
Peas and corn are on sale too
Have to take just a few
Cauliflower for a dollar a head
What a deal I’ll take two instead

Pushing my cart up to the cash
Forgot the potatoes I better dash
The family will be mad if I don’t make mashed
At least twice this week with the succotash

I hate to shop but can't pass up a deal
When it comes to saving money on a meal

Hope you liked my rap and pretended to clap
I’ll end it now before I get slapped

Pest In My Garden

Aruna at ml.wikipedia [CC-BY-SA-3.0 (

Coming home one day after work,
I looked out my back patio door.
Much to my surprise,
I saw a cat hunched over my flower boxes,
eating my newly planted marigolds.

How dare you, I said out loud.
I quickly opened the door,
and tried to shoo the cat away.
I’d worked so hard making my yard look pretty.
This big brown cat with his back towards me
paid no heed to my words get out of here.
I clapped my hands so loudly that I finally startled him.
He started to move away.
Watching him waddle very slowly,
I thought, oh my what a huge butt you have.
Off he ventured farther into my back yard.

Just before he was about to go behind the garden shed,
he turned his head and looked at me.
Probably thinking, you've just ruined my dinner.

I realized then that this was not a cat at all.
This was a groundhog starring back at me.

It was not the last I’d see of him,
as he returned a few days later.
This time feasting on tulips in my side yard.
They must not have agreed with him,
as all the tops were left beside the stems.

Shortly after we added a dog to our family,
and have not seen Mr. Groundhog since.

Every Picture Tells a Story - It's a Dogs Life

The Tree Fort

How I want to be a bird up in a tree
Singing songs and chirping, chasing bumblebees

I tried to build a nest, thinking maybe I could fly
Turn into a bird, and soar way up high

Gathered all the leaves and twigs, together to be bound
Now I am exhausted with a tree fort on the ground

Actually it is quite nice, with all the leaves covering me
I can hide right here escaping, the bath that I so need

We are two dogs that are bored as can be
Lying on the kitchen floor waiting for a treat

A walk would be nice, out in the sun
Go to the park for a little run

The cat is upstairs hiding........ from us right now
If he’d come down, we could chase him all around

Swimming at the lake would be lots of fun
Guess we’ll just have to wait for the time to come

Trim My Paws

Why do you look so shocked that I jumped up here

The groomer made me get on her table, so why can’t I here

I went to school today and got one paw groomed

So get out the scissors and please finish them soon

You saw how she did it, so please give it a try

Make the other ones pretty, I am not shy

One night after obedience training I asked the groomer/trainer how to trim the fur on my dogs paws and so she took us into her grooming room and showed me on one of her paws. When we got home Magz jumped up onto the table as if to say "Okay now finish the other three"

Texas Hold Em

I have this little addiction, well actually two addictions. One is writing, and the other is I love to play Texas Hold Em Poker on Facebook. I've been playing online now for years as I really enjoy the game. It's fun to try to figure out who the bluffers are, and who only bets when they know they have everyone beat. I play pretty safe most of the time, and only bet when I think I have a chance to win. I really think poker of any type is a game of chance, skill and patience. I've written this haiku for my love of poker. Hope that you like it.

Texas Hold Em Poker

Nine at a table
Placing bets begin the game
Waiting for the flop

Someone goes all in
Should I fold my ace and king
No I don't, I win

Full house, flushes, straights
Four of a kind is divine
Royal flush beats all
